Edward V. Bell, Ph.D.

Edward V. Bell, Ph.D., 93, of Wheaton, MD, passed away on August 14, 2017, at Suburban Hospital after a short illness. Dr. Bell was a professor (retired) at William Paterson University in Wayne, NJ. He was passionate about the power of education and a tireless advocate for civil rights and community projects. He was a veteran of the Second World War and served in the Army. Dr. Bell also taught karate and was a black belt.

His survivors include wife, Leonora D. Bell; daughters, Lori Ann Commins and Lisa Haley. Son-in-law, William Commins; sons Louis, Donald, and Edward Bell Jr.; brother Maurice Bell; grandsons Tahir Bell, Jerhan Stephens, Brandon Haley, Michael Bell, Jr. ; granddaughters Leanna Commins and Thalia Noemi Bell. He is predeceased by son, Michael R. Bell in 2010.
The Janaza will held on Friday, August 18, 2017, at Universal Mortuary in Washington, DC. Following the service, Dr. Bell will be buried with military honors at the Quantico National Cemetery in Triangle, Va.

Johnny Ray Chandler, Sr.

Johnny Ray Chandler, Sr. was born at D.C. General Hospital in Washington, D.C. on November 11, 1953 to Nazim Abdul Karriem and the late Virginia Quadriyyah Karriem. He departed this life on July 31, 2017 at Washington Hospital Center at the age of 63.

He leaves to cherish his memory his three daughters Konita Smith, Tiyease Floyd, and Aneesah Chandler; two sons Donnell Burrows and Johnny Ray Chandler, Jr.; 4 granddaughters, Raynashia Goodine, Raegene Goodine, London Short, and TaNika Floyd; 5 grandsons Raymond Goodine, Damanick Floyd, Jordan Smith, Micah Smith, and Robert Smith; one great grandson DaMari Lewis; his mother Virginia Q. Karriem whom proceeded him in death, father Nazim A. Karriem (Fatima); 7 siblings, three of whom proceeded him in death Richard ‘Bobby’ Chandler, Michael Chandler, and Emmanual ‘Manny’ Karriem; Olivia Street (Willie), Janice ‘Tiny’ Robinson (Melvin), Faheem Karriem, and Varnada Karriem; foster sister Khadija El-Haraka, two special nieces Olivia Evans and Daniell Jackson; best friend Hazel Floyd, 26 nieces and nephews, 40 great nieces and nephews, and 25 great-great nieces and nephews, and host of other family and friends.
